Spring....Spring Deco oh what to do....

I went to the Christmas Tree Shop yesterday to kill time before it was time to pick up my son. It is always a joy walking in there...you just don't know what you are getting or what you will experience. I enjoy the variety of people that go there and while I was grabbing some shells I got into a conversation with a lady that had a Chihuahua with her in a baby Bjorn. Yes it was awfully cute and then she started telling me about all the pups she had to leave at home as she rolled out her little photo album and I got to see the whole family of doggies. Anyhow...She had quite a collection of furry friends and was so proud of each and every one of them as I got to hear their names and personalities. So if you think I am a crazy doggy Mom think again! 

Here is what I grabbed:

When I saw the Nautical looking bowl/vase I knew that was a piece that I really had to have. The robe handle called for some shells, sand or whatever. I quickly grabbed the last one on the shelf and found some shells. They are actually the real deal, but not the starfish and the  sandollars. I also found battery operated candles with a timer and 2 sassy lady friends that I took a liking to immediately as I saw them....It's almost like they were calling my name

So here is what I did:

I filled the bottom with sand that I had at home, stuck the candle in the middle and filled it with shells. Easy Peasy.

I already had the wooden candle holders. I got them at Target a while ago. The balls with the rope too

I thought it would just be splendid to create a little theme for my Dining Room table....Who says the centerpieces have to be 360....

I played with this a little bit and moved it around as I always do...that's part of the fun

And when it started getting dark out  I had to snap a photo...Love the look

Look what I found!

So on my trip to the Salvation Army I also spotted those retro candle holders that look sort of weird. Almost like a glass with a wooden foot, hard to describe but here is a photo

They were remarkably clean and looked like new so for only $3 bucks each I saw a potential!

Here they are both, one of them is Shabby and the other one will be in a minute...

What I did was simple, I took regular white acrylic paint and did 2 coats (no sanding).

After the paint dried I roughed the surface up with a really fine sandpaper, I did a third coat with Martha Stewart's Mother of pearl paint just to get a little glazing effect. Afterwards I took dark wax and just dabbed it lightly with a course brush to get that "old" look to it...The process took 1/2 hour or so and when I was done I wasn't sure...The stem looked so white compared to the glass hmmmm.... but once I lit them up with tea lights I knew they were mine and I love the look!

they are standing so adorable on my side table in the family room. I love the height of them and how unique they are...but I seriously need to stop buying candle holders...I have an addiction problem....every time I just get sucked in :-)

Iron Sphere

We have all seen those iron spheres used for decoration purposes...they look sort of rustic but classy...

Well "I Got One"

 The globe I got at TJ Maxx this summer and I finally figured out why it was on sale so cheap...

The top screw is missing

I got all screwed up when I noticed but then again...who will notice?

I also tried to Fall-ify my family room with 2 candle holders I got on the same trip to TJ Maxx...also on sale...I still can't figure out why...

they are glass but with a real bark on the outside...they look so nice and almost Christmas-Y and very rustic.

I still haven't removed my summer greenery...It's actually not feeling like Fall outside yet. Not until next month here in New England. 

I put that driftwood that I found at the Cape next to the fireplace temporarily but I kind of like it there so it's staying

Hoping you have an enjoyable weekend, I am heading up to New Hampshire with friends for a hike and some cabin time...should be nice!

Salvation Army Finds

I am sharing with you today my finds at the local Salvation Army. It's always interesting to go into those stores, sometimes there is nothing but other times you find something that catches your eye like these candle holders... (like I don't have enough candle holders....Ahem) There were 2 of them on the shelf, dirty and dingy so they got to go home with me. 

These babies were meant to get a second chance!

Some silver polish, TLC and voila...Here they are both standing side by side- One got the deluxe spa treatment while the other waited patiently for it's turn

In the end they were both sparkly and shiny so I matched them up with my 2 other silver candle holders (wedding gift) and placed them on this rustic tray because I love the contrast of old and new...A crocheted doily and some dried rose pedals and they look fabulous!
