Little Things

When I was in Iceland I noticed that so many people had these cute numbers on their advent candles. Walking down Laugarvegur I came across a store that I had heard of via my blogfriend
The store was crowded with people so I didn't stay too long but I picked up these cute numbers to put on my candles....

They add so much to my already decorated fireplace...I love it!

This my Advent wreath that got a little makeover....The numbers on the candles I got at a local flower store in my hometown Hafnarfjordur...the lady didn't want to sell it to me because they were irregular...I told her that was the reason I wanted them...Anyways they look cute on the candles plus the added Scandinavian mushrooms that aren't sold here in the States.
Ohh those little things that give you JOY!
Enjoy

First Sunday in Advent

This morning when I woke up and lit the first candle it was snowing so I couldn't resist to take the wreath outside (I hope nobody saw me in my pj's and slippers hopping around taking photos)
Enjoy this beautiful Sunday, hug the one's you love, eat good food and be merry

My Advent Arrangement

I am so tempted to do two Advent Wreath arrangements this year....I feel like I cheated because when I hauled  the floral box out of the basement and peeked in I saw that not only had I the moss like I thought but the berries and six small clay flower pots probably from a project that never got finished....I even had the ribbon...so it was easy to decide which Advent Wreath I would do....And the winner is....

I painted the clay pots white (light coat) and filled them with styrofoam balls that fit perfectly in it. Next I stuck the candles in (they popped right in) and covered with moss and little berries and arranged them on a little tray I had....very simple!

I also found this wreath among other things when I started digging into the box....so I hung it up with a silk ribbon in the hallway....Isn't it cute?
I can't wait to start "Really" decorating for Christmas...but I am waiting till after Thanksgiving:-)
Have a great one

Advent Wreath

I grew up in a very traditional household in Iceland. Before Christmas the women would gather and make their advent wreaths. Typically it was done with fresh twigs, pine cones and flower wire- sometimes those little red mushrooms or little fake berries were put in there too. Ribbon, and 4 candles-red or white. I remember my Mother making a fresh wreath ever single year and I would sit in the kitchen and watch her and her sister put them together. I sooo remember that the scent of the greenery - For me it meant that Christmas was coming.
I have never made the traditional advent wreath myself but I would like to. I have tried to be resourceful and come up with something super simple like sticking long candles into sand, rice or coffee beans in a bowl or just put 4 pillar candles on a tray and put pine cones around them. Me and my older sister usually trade pictures of our wreaths/arrangements  and we take pride in our creations.
Pinterest has opened my eyes wide and inspired me on so many levels. It's like a marketplace for your eyes.
I love it!
I know that the first Sunday in the Advent isn't until Dec 2nd this year but it's not too early to think about the wreath right? Usually the day creeps up on me and I throw stuff together but this year I want to do it in time

I love the red, green and white...very crisp look...
Then there are creative ways to create your own thing....simple, rustic and just using things you already have around you...

Not quite sure what I will come up with myself this year. Thinking about going into my floral arrangement box and seeing what I find there before I run to the craft store. I know I have some moss in there so that actually can be a great start!
I will keep you posted
All the best
