Look what I found!

So on my trip to the Salvation Army I also spotted those retro candle holders that look sort of weird. Almost like a glass with a wooden foot, hard to describe but here is a photo

They were remarkably clean and looked like new so for only $3 bucks each I saw a potential!

Here they are both, one of them is Shabby and the other one will be in a minute...

What I did was simple, I took regular white acrylic paint and did 2 coats (no sanding).

After the paint dried I roughed the surface up with a really fine sandpaper, I did a third coat with Martha Stewart's Mother of pearl paint just to get a little glazing effect. Afterwards I took dark wax and just dabbed it lightly with a course brush to get that "old" look to it...The process took 1/2 hour or so and when I was done I wasn't sure...The stem looked so white compared to the glass hmmmm.... but once I lit them up with tea lights I knew they were mine and I love the look!

they are standing so adorable on my side table in the family room. I love the height of them and how unique they are...but I seriously need to stop buying candle holders...I have an addiction problem....every time I just get sucked in :-)

The Style Sisters

Before and after table

I went picking at the Salvation Army last week and took this baby home!

I started prepping by sanding. Then I mixed together 2 colors of Annie Sloan paint...Coco and French Linen with a dash of white...that's what I had on hand 

I had some leftover Graphite so I added it to the edges  

Then I kept on with the drawer since I was running out of the paint I mixed.

I also spray painted the brass handles white

Tadah! Here is the finished product!

And the best thing...My son brought me these beautiful roses!

So pretty

More Findings

 But there is more...I came across this old mirror on my on my trip to Salvation Army on Monday. I wasn't sure about it at first but decided to grab it

 I had no idea what to do with it so I painted it all white. It didn't look very exciting so I used some leftover paint in Cocoa (Annie Sloan of course)  on the outside trim. I did a coat of yellow  first and then 2 coats of white over. I finished the whole thing with scrubbing the heck out of it with a rough sandpaper so the yellow would shine through a little bit. I think it came out cute and I placed it on my mantle with the flowers I picked and dried from my garden in June

Next on the list is this iron cross. On the back was a price sticker from Home Goods for $24
I only paid $7 for it

I simply sprayed it with matte spray from Home Depot that I always keep on hand and roughed it up with sandpaper. It looks a little crooked once it's on the wall but that's ok

Virgin Mary with her boy...I sprayed her with matte white paint lightly few times. I haven't found a spot for her yet though. My neighbor came over last night and told me that the statue looked creepy but I am not listening to that nonsense!

I grabbed these 2 books with me and sprayed them white to cover the title on the spine, I added a brown paper to one of them and tied together with a string that came from some poutporri package way back ( I never throw away stuff like that ) and strung a heart on them

The little ceramic heart got a new ribbon and a good scrubbing before I hung it on the shutter

So that's about it! Another successful trip to the Salvy. Sometimes you don't see anything and other times there are several things that tickle your fancy!

Rocking Chair before and after

I was picking at the local Salvation Army Monday morning and found this rocker...in the other corner sat a little side table... both are solid wood and fine quality so I decided to grab them and see what I could do!

I used Annie Sloan chalk paint in pure white- 2 coats and sanded with the finest sandpaper I had on hand. I waxed the seat and handles of the rocker and put a little wax on. For the tabletop I sprayed Shellac protection film when I was done just in case there were spills

They both looked a little bare after I painted them so I decided be little more creative and dig out my stencils. The stencil I used is a template from my Auntie Martha Stewart and I used old violet paint from Annie Sloan
