It's Snowing!

Yes, once again changes inside the fireplace. If I would have ever known how much fun It would have been to arrange and re-arrange inside it I would have made the change so many years ago!

I got inspired by one of my favorite Icelandic blogger Skreytum Hus where she teaches us how to decoupage a candle. I picked a photo from Google Images and printed it out on regular printing paper. I trimmed it according to the size of the candle and basically glued it on with Martha Stewart Decoupage in matte finish. Once on the candle I did one coat on the outside. As I went over the print the color bled a little bit but I actually love the look...Streaky but even

I messed up the top of this candle when I was trying to get all the wrinkles out so I glued a metallic ribbon to cover up my mistakes.

I didn't have any fake snow on hand so I took Saran Wrap and crumbled it up and cut down in little pieces. I also put a little bit of Glamour Touch in there for some sparkly effect

Do you see the sled in there? Well I got it at the Salvation Army last Summer. It stayed in the garage in the "future project" pile for some time

Here is a picture of the sled before I attacked it with the silver spray

So here is the total look of the whole thing at least for now. As I look at the photos I see one thing that I need to spray silver...What is it? Take a guess

Enjoy your day!

Fall in the family room

Today I started putting the fall decorations out. I usually pack things away in large plastic boxes and store in the basement. It's always a little exciting to open it up a year later...there is always a few surprises...dead mice things that I forgot I had gotten from the previous year!
I started in the family room...

I ran to Home Goods in the middle of the project...Lord knows why... Just felt the need.
I picked up 2 baskets, a fall subway sign, 2 harvest stalks, an owl and a funky candle holder and I placed most of it on the mantle

Remember all that bark that I collected in New Hampshire? Well there you go...I found use for it inside the fireplace

Tomorrow I am showing you the rest of the house- Stay tuned!

Inside the fireplace

Once again I re-arranged....well it is almost a new season so time for some greenery...

Here is before....

And After...

I added some Glass Easter eggs I had from last year to get a little color...
Here are some photos with the candles lit as you know it changes the whole outlook

I am so happy I went ahead and painted the fireplace last summer...It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I don't know why on earth I was so afraid to do it in the first place. If I ever want to go back to lighting fire in there I can...the black paint on the inside is heat resistant.
So that's my little pre-Easter arrangement...hope you enjoyed the visit

Family Room (again)

The family room is finally coming together. New carpets are in, shades for the skylights are up...all I am waiting for is the shutters for the last big window. Last night was really the first time I sat there alone and enjoyed myself. It was at dusk time and candles lit. I couldn't resist snapping off few pictures.

I have completely transformed the room. It is nothing like it was before just by painting!
If you have looked at any previous blogs of mine you can see that I started by painting the fireplace...after that I kept on going...I was unstoppable. Manic little me!
Instead of getting new sofas I got slipcovers, I spent real money on the blinds for the skylights -(a great investment) the carpet (which was gross and worn out) and the biggest splurge was the shutters. I called Budget Blinds and they came to my house with samples, measured for me and are due to install them as soon as the order comes in. (9 weeks) so hopefully by mid August I can show off my new windows.

Here are before and after pictures
